  • Hancock is best known for his famous signature, as President of the Continental Congress his was the first signature on the Declaration of Independence.

  • Only Hancock and the Congress Secretary Charles Thomson signed the original Declaration of Independence on July 4th. The famous copy in the National Archive was signed by most of the signers on August 2nd.
