Fun Facts:

  • Hewes fiance, Isabella Johnston, died just days before their wedding - and he remained a bachelor for the rest of his life.

  • He died while serving in Congress in 1779 and is buired in Philadelphia. His remains are still in the Christ Church burial ground, unlike the colony's other two signers, who were reinterred beneath the Signer's Monument in Greensboro, North Carolina.
