  • Ruthledge is considered responsible for the month long delay on voting on Richard Henry Lee's June 7th resolution on independence, which he considered premature.

  • Despite his reservations, Ruthledge voted for the Declaration on July 2nd. He's thought to be the youngest man to do so.
